A different kind of sequence
Four complete King-to-Ace runs clear the game. The tableau has seven columns. Moves build down in the same suit rather than allowing cross-suit destinations. Scorpion on xalongli.com uses one 52-card deck with four suits.
The initial seven columns
Each opening column contains seven cards for a total of 49 tableau cards. All cards in the last three columns are face up. The first three cards in each of the first four columns are face down. Three cards remain in the stock.
Check rank and suit together
The following details apply here. A moved group's leading card must land on a card exactly one rank higher in the same suit. A seven of hearts can land on an exposed eight of hearts. A seven of hearts cannot land on an eight of spades. A King cannot land on another card because no higher rank exists.
Move exposed groups
The selected cards do not need to descend in rank to travel together. The selected cards do not need to share a suit to travel together. The leading selected card still has to meet the destination rule. Any face-up card can be selected together with every card beneath it.
The empty-column rule
Keep these points in mind. Cards beneath a moved King do not need to be in sequence. An empty column accepts a King or a group led by a King. A group led by a lower rank cannot enter an empty column. An empty column is therefore less flexible than an empty column in ordinary Spider.
Reveal the hidden cards
The following details apply here. An exposed card can carry the cards beneath it when its own destination is legal. The next hidden card is revealed automatically. Undo restores the earlier hidden-card arrangement when the move is reversed. Removing all face-up cards above a hidden card turns that hidden card face up.
The final three cards
Keep these points in mind. Dealing places a face-up card on each of the first three columns. This Scorpion version permits its stock deal when columns are empty. The stock contains one final deal of three cards. There are no further stock cards after the three-card deal.
Collect ordered runs
The following details apply here. A completed run must descend from King to Ace in one suit. The game removes a qualifying run automatically from the bottom of a column. Moving an unordered group does not make that group a completed sequence. All thirteen cards in a collected run must be face up.
Practice Scorpion decisions
A few details help explain this feature. Replay and Undo let you explore another approach to the same layout. A move can carry unwanted cards along with a useful leading card. Checking the whole moved group helps you anticipate what will become blocked. Hint lists legal choices without promising a winning continuation.
